The History Behind the Artwork

The image featured on this shirt is known as the Virgin of Vladimir, one of the most famous icons in Christian history. Originally painted in the Byzantine tradition during the 12th century, it has been cherished by believers for nearly a thousand years.

This style of icon is called Eleusa, meaning “Tenderness” or “Merciful Compassion.” The gentle embrace between Mary and Jesus emphasizes both Christ’s humanity and the deep love shared between mother and child.
